The Wallace Collection is a national museum which displays the wonderful works of art collected in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the first four Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, the son of the 4th Marquess. It was bequeathed to the British nation by Sir Richard's widow, Lady Wallace, in 1897.
The Collection contains a library of rare books which are an invaluable research resource and works of art in their own right, and are usually kept locked in a climate controlled archive. Exclusively for the Stationers, on the morning of the 17th May a number of these books will be removed from the archive and be available for our inspection in the library where Senior Curator Helen Jacobsen and Library Cataloguer Helen Jones will present a talk on the history of the library, its books and the issues concerning their preservation and treatment. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for a question and answer session.
Following the talk, at approximately 12.30pm, we will enjoy a glass of wine and a three course lunch in the Collection’s restaurant within the glass covered atrium followed by a raffle in support of the Stationers’ Foundation and its educational work. We will then be free to visit the rest of the collection at our leisure.
The Wallace Collection (Hertford House, Manchester Square, London, W1U 3BN) is a 5 minutes walk from Bond Street tube station and less than a 10 minute walk from Baker Street tube station.
Tickets are £60 inc VAT to include a glass of wine, three course lunch and a donation to the Collection.
Numbers are limited to just 25 guests on a 'first come first served' basis.
