This year Common Hall and the installation of the new Master will take place on Tuesday, 3 July 2018. Following Common Hall, Liverymen, Freemen and their guests are invited to stay on for the Master’s Installation Party, with a champagne canapé reception in the garden.

This year, if elected, the new Master will be David Allan. David, having completed a diploma in business studies spent five years with W H Smith the high street retailer, specialising in book and magazine sales before starting a period of general training with the family business Ian Allan Group which involved publishing, printing, travel and motor vehicle franchise. Appointed to the board in 1986 and Managing Director of Ian Allan Publishing two years later, David became Chairman in 1996 and Ian Allan Group Chairman in 2002. During that period Ian Allan Publishing became arguably the leading specialist transport publisher in the UK as well as setting up a unique relationship with the Royal United Services Institute, co-publishing with them the Armed Forces Magazine and developing a military history and defence list. In 2011 the Company achieved the accolade of the Best Launch of a Specialist Magazine Title with Hornby Magazine. In 1992 he was appointed Awards Manager for the Heritage Railway Awards and has been a Director of the Dart Valley Railway PLC for the past twelve years.
He served the office of Renter Warden, Chairman of the Livery Committee and Livery representative on the Court and was for four years a Trustee of the Stationers’ Foundation before becoming Chairman for a further three. He was briefly Chairman of the Industry Committee before becoming Chairman of the Fundraising Committee eighteen months ago.
