Hiring Stationers’ Hall

Weddings And Celebrations

We would like to say a huge thank you for the beautiful and perfect venue for our wedding. All of our guests loved Stationers' Hall and complimented that both the exterior and interior were beautiful. The Garden was perfect for the champagne reception and the Hall was magnificent (it made the ceremony and wedding breakfast memorable). On top of that, Chester Boyd delivered excellent service and food. Thank you all for your help before and during the wedding!

- Craig and Eve, May 2016

Thank you so much for everything you did towards making our wedding day absolutely perfect and during the planning stages too. Please pass on our sincere thanks to Ken and his team, they were brilliant and several members of staff were superb at dealing with / humouring all the kids at the wedding.

The food was superb. All the guests with dietary requirements were happy with how their needs were catered for and you dealt with unforeseen delays very well. Everybody had an absolutely fantastic time!

- Chris and Jacqui, Oct 2016

We wanted to drop a note to say an absolutely massive thank you, the team was phenomenal and we had a really amazing time! The guests have been raving about how brilliant the venue and staff were too.

- Ella and Sophia, April 2016

The whole day was wonderful, thank you so much for all you did. It went way too quickly! All the staff, both Hall and catering, were friendly and really helped make it go just as well as we'd hoped.

- Lauren and Nick, Sept 2016

Everything was perfect and a huge part of that was entirely down to Stationers' hall. You were wonderful from the start and we feel like you honestly cared about our wedding - we at no time felt like just another wedding in your long list of them.

- Gemma and Paul, July 2016

Stationers' Hall has a civil licence for marriages and civil partnership ceremonies on the premises. The Court Room and the Hall are ideal for ceremonies for up to 120 and 200 guests respectively.

The legal requirements for getting married at approved premises are the same as for civil marriages in England and Wales but with the added requirement of the presence of a Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar to conduct and record the service.

It is possible to enhance your ceremony by having your own choice of non-religious music, poetry and prose readings, but the content must be agreed in advance with the Superintendent Registrar. It is also possible to have your own choice of vows and promises that have a special meaning to both of you, although these will be in addition to the statutory declaratory and contracting words that are required.

Civil ceremonies may be carried out day or night seven days a week.

Arrangements

For those who wish to marry on approved premises:-

As soon as a couple have made provisional arrangements for their marriage on approved premises, they should be advised to contact the Superintendent Registrar for the district in which the premises are situated. This is as follows: -

Islington Register Office
Islington Town Hall
Upper Street
London E3 5EX

Bookings for ceremonies are taken online, the link is as follows:

https://www.islington.gov.uk/birth-death-marriage-and-citizenship/marriage-and-civil-partnerships

Without the presence of a Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar there can be no marriage and any arrangements for the use of the premises depend entirely on their availability. It is, therefore, essential that the couple make an advance booking with the Superintendent Registrar for his/her attendance at their proposed marriage as soon as a booking can be accepted. A fee for this attendance will be payable before the ceremony.

The couple will also have to give a notice of marriage to the Superintendent Registrar(s) of the district(s) in which they live.  Please contact your local register office for further advice and information on this.

The couple should be aware that any arrangements made for a marriage to take place on the approved premises are dependent on:

(a) the attendance of Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar for the district in which the premises are situated; and

(b) the valid notice of marriage or civil partnership of both parties

The couple should be advised that only a civil, non-religious ceremony can be permitted by the Superintendent Registrar. Any reading, words or performance which form any part of the ceremony must be secular (non-religious). The content of the ceremony must be agreed in advance with the Superintendent Registrar who will be attending the ceremony.

Any rights of copyright for music, readings etc. permitted at the ceremony are a matter for the couple and the holder of the approval.

For further information or queries, please contact the register office directly.
