We would like to say a huge thank you for the beautiful and perfect venue for our wedding. All of our guests loved Stationers' Hall and complimented that both the exterior and interior were beautiful. The Garden was perfect for the champagne reception and the Hall was magnificent (it made the ceremony and wedding breakfast memorable). On top of that, Chester Boyd delivered excellent service and food. Thank you all for your help before and during the wedding!

Stationers' Hall has a civil licence for marriages and civil partnership ceremonies on the premises. The Court Room and the Hall are ideal for ceremonies for up to 120 and 200 guests respectively.

The legal requirements for getting married at approved premises are the same as for civil marriages in England and Wales but with the added requirement of the presence of a Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar to conduct and record the service.

It is possible to enhance your ceremony by having your own choice of non-religious music, poetry and prose readings, but the content must be agreed in advance with the Superintendent Registrar. It is also possible to have your own choice of vows and promises that have a special meaning to both of you, although these will be in addition to the statutory declaratory and contracting words that are required.

Civil ceremonies may be carried out day or night seven days a week. 


For those who wish to marry on approved premises:-

As soon as a couple have made provisional arrangements for their marriage on approved premises, they should be advised to contact the Superintendent Registrar for the district in which the premises are situated. This is as follows: -

Without the presence of a Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar there can be no marriage and any arrangements for the use of the premises depend entirely on their availability. It is, therefore, essential that the couple make an advance booking with the Superintendent Registrar for his/her attendance at their proposed marriage as soon as a booking can be accepted. A fee for this attendance will be payable before the ceremony.

The couple will also have to give a notice of marriage to the Superintendent Registrar(s) of the district(s) in which they live.  Please contact your local register office for further advice and information on this.

The couple should be aware that any arrangements made for a marriage to take place on the approved premises are dependent on:

(a) the attendance of Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar for the district in which the premises are situated; and

(b) the valid notice of marriage or civil partnership of both parties

The couple should be advised that only a civil, non-religious ceremony can be permitted by the Superintendent Registrar. Any reading, words or performance which form any part of the ceremony must be secular (non-religious). The content of the ceremony must be agreed in advance with the Superintendent Registrar who will be attending the ceremony.

Any rights of copyright for music, readings etc. permitted at the ceremony are a matter for the couple and the holder of the approval.

Ideally located in the heart of the City of London, the Grade 1 listed building, St Martin within Ludgate Church (SMWL) provides the perfect blend of rich history and culture with a contemporary feel for your wedding ceremony.

SMWL is one of the rare fifty-two remaining Wren Churches in the City, complete with its striking interior including stained glass windows,  oak wood flooring and contemporary carvings dating back to the 12th century.

The beautiful Church can fit up to 160 people for your ceremony and you can also hire the converted Gallery which can also be used as a bridal room or creche for children.

The Church is situated on Ludgate Hill near St Paul's Cathedral and backs onto the Stationers’ Garden. It has great transport links as it is situated directly opposite City Thameslink station (Ludgate Hill exit) and only a few minutes’ walk from St Paul's tube station.

Licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships, the venue is perfect for both ceremonies and receptions.

Should you wish to hold your ceremony at Stationers’ Hall, the elegant Court Room can accommodate up to 120 guests or up to 200 in the magnificent Livery Hall.

If you choose to have a Church wedding, St Martin within Ludgate provides the perfect blend of rich history and culture with a contemporary feel. The Stationers’ Garden is a secluded haven within the City of London. It is an ideal space for a wedding reception and a beautiful setting to capture your special moments.  Should the weather be inclement (or in winter months), the Court Room or Stock Room are also perfect for your drinks reception.

The wedding breakfast can take place in the Main Hall which can accommodate various table set-ups using either long tables (up to 200 guests) or round tables (up to 150 guests).  Dancing is permitted in the Hall or the Stock Room.

We have an on-site caterer as well as a list of accredited caterers to suit every budget.  We are very happy to provide a list of recommended suppliers for your day including florists, photographers, bands, DJs, cakes, and so much more.  Nearby hotels offer discounted rates for those booking with Stationers’ Hall.

Whether getting married at Stationers’ Hall, St Lawrence Jewry, St Bride’s Church or St Paul’s Cathedral, our central London venue provides the ideal backdrop for your big day.

Venue hire is dependent on the time of year and ranges between £3,950 + vat to £4,950 + vat.

This includes:

  • Exclusive use of Stationers' Hall. This includes the Livery Hall, Court Room, Stock Room, Ante Room and Garden
  • Use of the Court Room or the Livery Hall for a civil ceremony (if required)
  • Long or round tables and chairs
  • Staffed cloakroom
  • PA system in Livery Hall or Court Room for speeches and background music
  • Dancing permitted in the Stock Room or in the Hall
  • Candles permitted
  • Limited parking in the Courtyard. City of London car parking nearby.
  • Discounted rates at nearby hotels
  • Ability to extend until 1am (at an additional charge)
