Today is Sir Clive Martin's 80th birthday and we send him greetings on his special day. Sir Clive Martin OBE TD DL became a Freeman of the Company in 1960 and served as Master in 1997-8. Meanwhile he was also serving the the wider community and in 1985 he was elected as Alderman to the City of London.
He served as Sheriff in 1996 and was elected Lord Mayor of London for 1999-2000. He was the last Stationer to be Lord Mayor and exemplifies the links between the Livery Companies and the City of London Corporation. The Clerk would be delighted to hear from any Stationer who wanted to become more involved in the City. He briefs all potential new members about what the Corporation does but more detail can be found here. As with any local council there are elections in the 25 wards which make up the City and you can click here to find out more about them. Voters are residents and, unusually, businesses - even Stationers' Hall gets a vote! Wouldn't it be great to have another Stationer active in the Corporation?
