Many thanks to Upper Warden Nick Steidl who alerted us to the mentions that the Company received on the Radio 4 Start the Week programme this morning. The programme focused on The Levellers who were revolutionaries who brought 17th century England to the edge of radical republicanism. In his biography (pictured and published by Verso), John Rees argues the Levellers are central figures in the country's history of democracy.

The importance of print was huge and printing material which the Company did not like had serious (terrible!) consequences. The programme can he heard by clicking here and in this season of goodwill and celebration Members may be brought up sharp to hear what their forbears were doing! All in the past, thank goodness!
