Members, especially those based in and around London who are coping with disruption as it is built, will be fascinated to learn that Stationer Richard Gilpin has actually been down into Crossrail!

Richard can be seen here in his protective gear.  The other image, on the right, is the entrance to one of the tunnels on the Elizabeth Line. The particular station which Richard visited will serve Canary Wharf and forms a multilevel interchange with the Jubilee Line and DLR.

According to http://www.crossrail.co.uk/ trains will start serving Liverpool Street to Shenfield in May this year!

Richard, wearing his Honorary Editor, LAMAS (London & Middlesex Archaeological Society) Newsletter (hard!) hat, also attended a preview on 8 February of the new exhibition at the Museum of London Docklands entitled Tunnel: The Archaeology of Crossrail.   He thoroughly recommends the exhibition (on from 10 February to 3 September) which displays and explains hundreds of objects that were found in excavations from Abbey Wood in the south east to Old Oak Common in the west.
