Past Master Tom Hempenstall has organised a trip to the World War 1 Battlefields on 21-24 May 2019 for a small group travelling by executive minicoach. The group will be led by Bob Couldrey who is a military historian and who oversaw the Court visit to Flanders in 2016 during PM Helen Esmonde’s year. The itinerary is:
Day 1 To Ypres, Departure from Folkestone on the 1420 Le Shuttle for Calais.
Day 2 All day in and around Ypres including the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate at 2000.
Day 3. Down to the Somme, commence studying the Somme battles and staying the night at Bapaume.
Day 4. AM Further exploration of the Somme. PM, en route to Calais visit Vimy Ridge (Canadians). Catch 1820 Le Shuttle from Calais.
