Liveryman Robert McClements who chairs Northern Stationers and who is keen to widen engagement in events outside of London while remaining firmly committed to the Company's range of activities focused on Stationers' Hall writes:-
Building on the momentum of Apprentice 18 and heading towards Apprentice 19 the Education Committee, under the chairmanship of Past Master, Helen Esmonde, has a clear policy to extend our activities outside London and to support our members with businesses in Leeds and elsewhere. Working in partnership with BPIF, who had an adjacent stand, the Northern Stationers were pleased therefore put on a great show at Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair (LARF) encouraging school leavers to consider apprenticeships in our industry. Over 6000 visitors to LARF at the First Direct Arena Leeds, organised by Leeds City Council, included 1200 young people exploring future career choices accompanied by many parents.
You can watch a video of the event here.
Freeman elect, Gurdev Singh, MD of North Wolds Printers, provided fliers offering immediate apprenticeships with various companies. Freeman, Richard Mawson, MD CyanX lent his exhibition
frame to display the branding created by the BPIF and the stand was attended by Freeman, Debbie Waldron-Hoines, Jo Stephenson, PHD Marketing, (along with Parkside Flexible Packaging) and from Heidelberg, Piers Carr and Elliot Brettle a current apprentice who was able to illustrate the benefits of such a career choice. Past Master, Helen Esmonde, travelled up from London for the event and recognised that as part of National Apprentice Week this was a new venture that could be further developed and Liveryman Michael Gardner also passed by the stand.
