Micropress have ordered their latest press to include the new HEIDELBERG highlights seen at DRUPA, which would further assist the Push to Stop technology to make the makeready times even faster.
This new installation will be a UK first. The new DRUPA 2024 Speedmaster XL 106-8P will be installed with HEIDELBERG’s new Inspection Control System and the latest Plate logistics system, Plate to Unit. The fully automated printing plate logistics system from HEIDELBERG. This upgrade represents another significant leap in automation for the Suffolk company.
Micropress has undertaken a £5 million investment programme over the last 12 months, including a factory extension and investment in new equipment. Joint Managing Directors James and Robert Cross returned to HEIDELBERG. In this latest round of investment, the brothers replaced their older Versafire CP with the newest Versafire 115 LP, which included the latest HEIDELBERG Digital Front End Operating system.
This was quickly followed by a full upgrade to their current workflow to a new HEIDELBERG Prinect Production Manager Workflow. They had previously been working with another supplier for over 20 years. Micropress chose to make this change based on the needs of the production site. And to maximize the performance of their new XL.
“It’s all about connectivity, efficiencies and automation,” said the JMDs, who both visited Drupa 2024 looking to the future. They anticipate the requirement to produce very short run work, in addition to the existing longer runs.
Rob Cross says, “We are thrilled to invest in what we believe is the most advanced and automated B1 Sheetfed Offset Press in the world. This cutting-edge technology enables us to continue delivering high quality work with fast turnaround times, all at market-leading prices. Staying responsive to the evolving needs of the marketplace is essential, and this press perfectly aligns with our commitment to innovation and continued investment.”
After considering the competition and other digital equipment options, James and Robert returned to Heidelberg as a trusted partner. They replaced their 9-year-old XL106-8P with a new DRUPA 2024 XL 106-8P, fitted with the latest Push to Stop technology. It's currently in use on their 2022 XL 106-10P, but the new, latest generation machine has the added benefits of HEIDELBERG’s Artificial Intelligence too.
“We are delighted that Micropress have chosen HEIDELBERG for this strategic investment, DRUPA demonstrated the advancements in technology and Micropress identified the benefits these will bring to their business and we look forward to working with them to maximize the performance of the new XL,“ says Phil Buttress Head of Sales at HEIDELBERG.
Micropress employs 200 staff members and works with a range of clients including Publishers, Print managers, other printers, and end users producing books, catalogues, magazines, and other commercial print work.
