Stationers' Crown Woods Academy
Stationers' Crown Woods Academy (SCWA) opened in September 2014 when Crown Woods College became an academy and joined Leigh Academies Trust. Completely rebuilt in May 2011 and based on the principles of 'human scale education', SCWA consists of four 'home' schools.
It is now in the process of integrating the latest digital technology into the curriculum and developing a multimedia centre to broaden the range of opportunities for all pupils and to develop the skills necessary in those young people who wish to take up careers in the Content and Communications industries.
Stationers' Crown Woods Academy is celebrating its best ever A level and GCSE results. A phenomenal 71% of students achieved A*-C grades at A Level (8% better than last year) and 70% achieved A* -C grades in GCSE in both English and Mathematics combined, improving on its performance in 2015 by 5%. A truly outstanding 85% of students achieved an A*-C grade in English and 73% in Maths. This continues the academy’s trend of performance exceeding both local and national averages.
‘Students have worked extremely hard and these excellent results are a tribute to their commitment and hard work’, remarked Faz Rahman the Associate Principal at the academy today, ‘we are very excited about the next steps for these students and supporting them as they prepare for University and future success - the vast majority of our Year 11 students will be joining our sixth form in September to begin post 16 study’.
Kevin Dewey, Chair of Governors, said ’I want to pay tribute to the academic and support staff who have taught, supported, nurtured and encouraged their students throughout their school lives’. ‘In particular, the outstanding results are a fitting farewell tribute to the retiring Principal, Michael Murphy, who has driven the academy from one of the worst in London to, now one of the best’. ’I also want to thank the governors and the many Stationers who give financial support, their time and talent in supporting the work of the staff’. ‘The results should make us all very proud of our students achievements.’
