Women of the Abyss - The Victims of Jack the Ripper
Professionally guided walking tour: Sunday 18 May 2025
Join Liveryman Ulrike Murphy on a Sunday morning walking tour through Whitechapel to discover the other side of the Jack the Ripper story.
There are no murders without victims, and before they were victims, they were women with lives more difficult than we can imagine.
Ulrike, a professional London tour guide, says: “I am going to introduce you to these five women, I'm not going to talk about their deaths, I'm going to talk about their lives and some of the tragic turns and decisions in those lives that led to them all ending their journeys in the East End of London.
“Come with me and meet Polly, Annie, Elizabeth, Kate and Mary Jane, and see where they barely existed. Their lives mirrored those of millions of other Victorian women.
“Let's give them a face, a voice and let us not define them only by their deaths.”
