Charter Dinner - Wed 6 May 2026 (Liverymen & Guests only)

Wednesday, 6 May 2026 - 18:30 until 22:45

The Charter Dinner is held annually to celebrate the granting of the Company’s Royal Charter by Queen Mary Tudor on 4 May 1557. It is a formal dinner for Liverymen only who are welcome to bring guests. The Company invite as guests presidents/chairmen and chief executives of our trade associations, our corporate members and our professional suppliers.

The evening will begin with a champagne reception and include a four-course dinner with wines, port and coffee. The traditions of the loving cup and loyal toasts will be observed.

The guest speaker is The Rt Hon Madam Deputy Speaker Nusrat Ghani MP. Many of you will remember her chairing the Budget last year, when she made the headlines for her style in both the sartorial sense and for admonishing the Chancellor for leaks and managing the House of Commons. Nusrat was quoted in The Times as ‘her vengeance spares no one’.

In July 2024, Nusrat Ghani competed in an election and won the position of Chairman of Ways and Means, Principal Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons. Since 1376, she is the first person of colour to preside as Madam Deputy Speaker and sit in the Speaker’s Chair.

Nusrat is the MP for Sussex Weald, first elected in 2015, becoming the first female MP to hold the seat and the Conservative Party’s first and only female Muslim MP. She has never shied away from taking on difficult issues and challenging powerful Staters. She is the only woman in Parliament to be sanctioned by two countries – China and Russia. That’s how tough our Muslim women are.
