Congratulations to Court Assistant, Robert Flather, Managing Director of Kolbus UK (left in the photo) , who has been elected Chairman of Picon.  He succeeds Bob Usher, Managing Director of Apex Digital Graphics (right in the photo), who has completed his two-year term leading the Council of the UK association of print industry manufacturers and suppliers.  Picon is one the Trade Associations with which the Stationers' Company had has long and good relations. It is very supportive on the membership front with not just its current CEO, Bettine Pellant, but her predecessor,Tim Webb, being Liverymen.  Click here to read the full press release from Picon

Liveryman John Buffoni has issued an invitation to interested Stationers for a BPIF and CDi event on 31 July 2015 at 11.30 for 12.00  in celebration of Yorkshire Day.  It will be held at the Digital Garage in Leeds and will feature Patrick Collister, Head of Design at Google NACE.  He will be speaking on The New Rules of Communication and that will include an argument for the thought that digital need not mean the end of print.  Interested  Stationers should click here to go through to the Members Only part of the website to discover how to get their free ticket.

The deadline for nominations for the Young Stationers' Prize, which is awarded to someone who will generally be under 40, for exceptional accomplishment and promise in one of the trades of the Company, is 6 July.  the longlist will be  announced on the 7 July, the shortlist on 13 July, and the Prize winner at the Young Stationers' Annual Dinner on 20 July. With the Master and Wardens meeting at 10.00, the Awards and Committees lunch at 12.30 and an Industry Committee Meeting at 3.00 as well as all the preparations for the Waterloo Ball due to take place this Friday, Monday, 15 June was a very busy day at the Stationers' Company but it was good to start it off by welcoming three new Freemen.  They are Dick van Baarlen, Managing Director of Safescan; Charles Fillingham, Deputy Head of the City of London School and Amy McKee, a Fine Books Editor with Gateway Publishing. It will be good to see them at events at the Hall in the near future.
