Joanna joined the Stationers’ as a free(wo)man back in June. She’s the director of Speak Street a not for profit organisation and publisher, on a mission to support refugee learners improve their English skills and confidence. Speak Street offers English classes across a range of London venues including community centre, homeless shelters, workplaces, and art galleries. She faced a problem familiar to many social entrepreneurs: how do we publish books for readers who want them but can’t afford to buy them.
Five years later into their publishing journey and they’ve published 12 English workbooks for refugee learners through a mixture of sponsorship and sales. They have two more coming out early next year so watch this space!
In the spirit of Speak Street’s mantra fun, social learning Joanna is excited to share the launch of Speak Street London walking tours. They are offering bespoke walking tours around the city. You will be guided by a qualified city guide. Perfect for a work team or client event or maybe just for the fun of it. Discover 2000 of London's history through fascinating facts and scandalous stories. Choose from one of they’re tours: City of Migrants, Historic Square Mile, Roman London or something bespoke. Funds raised through our tours will support our core work supporting refugees here in London. Email Joanna@speak-street.com to find out more.
