The Cupround Project seeks to recover single use cups that are delivered or migrate to home. The aim is to provide a lasting initiative that enables single use cups to be returned to a chain of custody.
Much of the packaging from take-aways or home deliveries can be recycled but not the cups. Every year in the UK, 2.5 billion cups are sent to Landfill and whilst there are schemes in place to assist in recovering “cups on the go”, there is no scheme available for recycling cups that migrate to the home environment. With only 1 in 400 cups currently being recycled, Cupround will endeavour to recover as many cups as possible with assistance from The National Cup Recycling Scheme. Members of the National Cup Recycling Scheme include McDonalds, Costa Coffee, Pret A Manger and Caffe Nero. Through these stores the Cupround box will be distributed free of charge to Customers who can take the box home and fill with 20 single use cups. If the scheme is implemented nationally, we are asking the stores to apply rewards via their app to encourage customers to recycle.
