A three-sided ‘anointing screen’, gifted to King Charles III by the City Corporation and participating Livery Companies (including the Stationers' Company), shielded His Majesty as he was anointed with holy oil at his Coronation.
Iconographer Aidan Hart designed the Anointing Screen and the skilled embroidereres of the Royal School of Needlework realised it. The central panel shows a tree on which the members of the Commonwealth appear as leaves In keeping with the theme of Service the King’s cypher is shown at the base of the tree, representing the Sovereign as servant of their people.
