LIVERYMAN LORD HAGUE (WILLIAM) - NEWLY ELECTED CHANCELLOR OF OXFORD UNIVERSITY

27 NOVEMBER 2024

Liveryman Lord Hague (William) - newly elected Chancellor of Oxford University
Liveryman Tim Connell (Queen's 1968) writes -

In a stiff field of 38 candidates, Liveryman Lord Hague (William) has been elected as the 160th Chancellor of Oxford University, with over 50% of the vote in the second round. He is a strong Oxford man, having studied the classic politician's degree of Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Magdalen College and been President of the Oxford Union. He was also heavily involved in the Campaign for Oxford in the late 1980s, which began the perennial task of fundraising. Williams' wife Ffion is also an Oxford graduate, having studied English at Jesus College.

Strictly speaking, the Chancellor's role is honorary, but William will undoubtedly be fully involved in the life and work of the University (which was recently ranked by The Sunday Times as the leading university in the world - for the ninth successive year). There will be a lot of ceremonial work to do, and meeting foreign dignitaries, but the Chancellor also has a key advisory role, and to work promoting the University and (almost certainly) fundraising.

The Company offers its hearty congratulations to Lord Hague.
