There was exciting news for the Master this week when he learned that he had been elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
This educational charity, based in Burlington House, Piccadilly, was founded in 1707. It promotes understanding of the human past and recognises distinction in this field through election to its Fellowship.
The Society’s royal charter states its mission as:
“The encouragement, advancement and furtherance of the study and knowledge of the antiquities and history of this and other countries.” The Society of Antiquaries of London Royal Charter (1751).
The Master’s Fellowship recognises, amongst other things, his expertise in ecclesiastical architecture and cultural history.
