The Immediate Past Consort, Melissa Mash, recently accepted an invitation from the Mistress Glover to go Wing Walking at an event designed to raise funds for Children’s Prosthetic Limb charities.
13 intrepid past and present Consorts, including Melissa, took part in a multi-Livery Company Day near Cirencester and raised over £52,000 in the process.
Members of the Carmen, the Painters and Stainers, the Insurers, the Glovers, the Water Conservators, the Glass Sellers, the Upholders, the Air Pilots (of which Melissa is a liveryman) and the Stationers were represented. Melissa enjoyed her 15 minute flight although it turned out to be quite bumpy given air turbulence on a hot day. She was grateful to the many Stationers, friends and family who sponsored her flight which she assures her husband (IPM Tony Mash) was a once-in-a-life time event. The success of the day augers well as a model for innovative ways of raising charitable donations by promoting novel events and taking advantage of pan-Livery Company co-operation.
