On Monday, 30 October the Master and Clerk attended a reception at Drapers’ Hall to honour the 88 Livery Companies who gifted the Anointing Screen to Honorary Liveryman His Majesty King Charles III, used at his Coronation on 6th May.
The evening began with a fascinating seminar given by all the craftspeople who were involved in its creation; including the designer, the digital embroiderers, hand embroiderers, wooden frame maker, eagle sculpture and the Grenadier Guardsman who was tasked with choreographing that part of the ceremony.
1.3 million stiches went into the screen; the wooden frame was made from a wind-blown tree from Windsor Great Park, which was originally planted by the Duke of Northumberland in 1765.
All Stationers can be justly proud of their Company’s contribution to this gift to His Majesty.
