The Stationers’ Shine School Media Awards is a school magazine competition supported by the Foundation committee and other sponsors. In 2011 Past Master Ian Locks set it up as a way of encouraging new talent into our content and communications industries, and 2020 will be the tenth anniversary of the summer awards ceremony where over 200 secondary school pupils are hosted in Stationers’ Hall.
Schools magazines and newspapers offer an extra-curricular opportunity to express opinion, to be creative, and to create a sense of community. They often are the starting points of careers in journalism, publishing, writing or design. As a way of celebrating this anniversary the Shine committee would like to invite all Freemen and Liverymen of the Stationers to cast their minds back to their school days, and share any anecdotes or thoughts they might have about their own school or university magazines; to be gathered and edited into a piece for Stationers’ News. An accompanying photograph of the writer as they were then would be most appreciated! By doing this, more of our members will be made aware of the vital function these publications play in the education of tomorrow’s talent.
Please send your content, however brief, to shine@stationers.org . We hope to hear from you!
