TheNeverPress is an up-and-coming independent London-based publishing house specialising in magical-realist fiction, poetry and narrative audio. And they also produce a podcast about movies and racehorses. All of it curiously off-beat.
Founded in 2009 by Graham Thomas to house his own work, TheNeverPress has been growing and developing into a label that goes its own way and produces content that delights, astounds and inspires across all media. It’s Graham’s vision to find underground and hidden voices and amplify them – to create a lost-and-found space for artists and ideas, transporting audiences into worlds they won’t want to leave.
In 2023, TheNeverPress released ‘Maria & The Devil’ in paperback, ebook and audiobook and the novel ‘The Boxkart Rebel’ will launch in all formats in August of this year (come along to the launch event on 21st August in London for live readings, music and DJ sets – tickets are free!) And that is just the start of the odyssey.
The team will soon launch TheNeverZine – a (free) subscription-based digital zine filled with news, events, reviews and original writing from their regular contributors and new voices.
Graham and his team of collaborators have also been working on installing eCommerce into TheNeverPress site directly, so they can have more control over their supply chain, ensuring that TheNeverPress remains as ethical and sustainable as possible.
TheNeverPress value their independence and plan to release a few publications each year in their own unique fashion: paperbacks, zines, online serialisations, newsletters, podcasts, recitals and film screenings. Anything they can dream up, they will endeavour to make happen. TheNeverPress might not be a publishing behemoth right now, but that’s fine by them. They’re just going their own way.
All of this might sound great, but it can be challenging – as Graham often says, “writing is easy, publishing is hard” and TheNeverPress are constantly on the lookout for like-minded people to contribute time, energy, creativity, experience and belief to make it all fly. They want their collaborators and get involved and feel encouraged and empowered to try new things and break conventions. As a collective, they live and die by the energy and artistic bravery of everyone involved.
