On 18 March Mike James and the Livery Committee welcomed Richard Ovenden to one of the Stationers' Company's "Literary Cocktail Hours”
This was the first time that we had a guest who was not a member of the Company, but Richard is no stranger to The Stationers'Company, and certainly no stranger to the world of books.
Peter Day explored both Richard’s personal history and his work at The Bodleian Library (where Richard is Bodley’s Librarian, ie the senior executive position of the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford) before discussing the much acclaimed Burning The Books which is a fascinating, thought-provoking and very timely publication. The conversation gave rise to many questions and emphasised the importance and value of preserving knowledge for future generations especially in the new digital age.
