My entire professional career was spent in publishing, first as an editor in trade houses before becoming the Publisher at the National Trust, looking after their books, guidebooks and membership literature.
Electing not to move to Swindon when the Trust moved out of London, I took early retirement, turning from gamekeeper to poacher and started writing books. My first title was Reading Matters:Five Centuries of Discovering Books, published by Yale University Press in 2009.
Since then I have published ten titles, some on botanical history with the Bodleian Library, others about London, one focusing on St Paul’s Churchyard, and most recently on Southwark. I joined the Stationers’ Company in 2010, have served on the Archive and Library Committee and was the Chairman of the Hall and Heritage Committee.
