The Clerk's Blog

On Saturday 28 March 2015, at the end of the Easter term, there was great excitement at the Somers Town Community Centre School (one of our Saturday Schools), as 18 of the children, aged between seven and nine, visited the Museum of London.

I was delighted to read that the Prime Minister had formally approved Leigh Academies Trust (LAT)'s bid to open a ground-breaking free school on the Greenwich peninsula, as a sister school to the very successful Stationers' Crown Woods Academy, specialising in digital media technology and carrying the Company's name.

Yesterday we hosted a very useful forum for representatives of the various Trade Associations (TAs) with which the Stationers' Company is associated, followed by a lunch in the Court Room.

My thanks and huge admiration go to Liveryman Gerald Hill, who, with his wife, Marian, sponsored a trip to the pantomime for children from Somers Town Community Centre School (one of the three Stationers' Saturday Schools).

It was a privilege to attend the very moving Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration for the life of Past Master Jonathan Straker at St Bride's Church on Wednesday morning.

I am delighted to hear from Tony Mash, who chairs our Industry Committee, that the date is set for next year's Stationers' Innovation Excellence Awards - Monday, 29 June 2015.

It was with enormous sadness that I emailed all members yesterday with the news that Past Master Bob Russell died suddenly and unexpectedly on the evening of Thursday, 6 November 2014.

It has taken a few months to sort out but we are now there with our new website - as, of course, you can see! I really hope that you like the new design and structure.

Those of you who have read the latest edition of Stationers' News will have read the article about the sterling work that Past Master Richard Brewster and Elaine Pooke did as 'Games Makers' at last year's Olympics.
